"Making the decision to hire Wes Caswell to produce my album was the single greatest decision I could have made in the entire process. He brings with him many years of experience yes, but it's his innate musical sense that really sets this guy apart. I guess I can sum it up in two words: He Listens. Yes, he listens to the music and knows how it should sound, but what I really mean is that this guy listens to YOU. What your vision is, what you want to achieve, and where you want to go with it. Then he goes about making that happen, but he'll also try to improve upon it if he can. For example, we had this one track called Long Way Home that started as a kind of driving country/pop sound. But after spending a little time on it he came back to me saying that he heard something a little different. I told him to show me and he came back with this blues/funk feel that not only captured what was going on in the original vocal but was also completely based upon the lyrical content of the tune. That track has now become one of my favourites to listen to because he took it and made it a better piece, it was a collaboration that really paid off. It's that musical taste that he brings to everything. Wes is also one of the easiest guys to work with. He challenges you but it's in a constructive and respectful manner, plus he carries no ego into it and heartilly listens to all input from all sources. Just watching him work with each of the musicians we brought on board was such a treat. He allowed each of them to bring their own ideas and influence to each track, but was also clear what framework that they were working in and what we were trying to achieve. Every one of those sessional musicians confided to me on how much they enjoyed working with him.
One great added bonus you also get when you hire Wes is that you get one of the finest bass players in the business, and that lays a nice tasty foundation for all the other players to climb on board. I know I'm going to hire him for my next project, so what are you waiting for?"

Dave Hiebert'Wes is one of those guys that just "understands music". He knows what works...and perhaps more importantly, he also knows what doesn't. It was an absolute pleasure to record with someone of Wes' caliber, both as a producer and a musician. Since my project didn't have an actual rehearsed band that came into the studio, but rather relied on outside players that I would bring in, it became more of a "create-as-you-go" scenario, which can quickly fall off the rails without proper direction. Wes demonstrated an uncanny ability to crawl inside my head and decipher what I often had problems putting into words. I couldn't be happier with my finished product and would recommend Wes and his studio in a heartbeat. On time....and on budget.'

Kim Fast'Recording with Wes was one the most fulfilling musical experiences I've ever had. From pre-production creative collaboration to the most minute detail on background vocals, I had his energies and considerable talents focused on my project. His connections to studio musicians (and his own playing) brought a whole new level of excellence that I wouldn't have had on my own. He made me comfortable recording for the first time AND demanded my best. A challenger, an encourager and a fine musician make an excellent combination. My best memory? In post-production, one morning Wes said "you've got to listen to this," seated me in the "sweet spot" in his studio to listen to a track's final mix, dimmed the lights and said "just listen." And there they were, my dreams.' www.kimfast.com |
Sandy Foster'Wes Caswell is detailed and strives for excellence in capturing great performances. I appreciate the respect with which he approaches other writer's material as he guides arrangements to different places while retaining the essence of songs. I have worked with Wes not only in the studio but also in live performance settings, and enjoyed his consistency and expertise as both a bassist and a producer.' www.sandyfoster.ca |
Jodie Leslie'Wes Caswell is known in the Alberta Music industry as a musicain, an arranger, and now as a producer and recording engineer. It was his name and reputation that first brought me to Wes. I drove to Calgary from Edmonton for every recording session, and it was well worth the drive. It's not just Wes' talents alone that make you want to collaborate with him, it's the person he is, and his life perspective. A great individual who is cheerful, thoughtful, and willing to go the extra mile. He always kept his timelines organized, and a definite team player. Thank Wes for a great album.' www.julyrocks.com |
